Fencing Course for Adult Beginners

Wimbledon Fencing Club offers a fencing course for the following types of beginner :

This 6-week course is structured around the syllabus for the Grade 1 Achievement Award at Foil as defined by the British Fencing Association.

Autumn Course 2021 - Wed 27 Oct to Wed 1 Dec 2021 - FULLY BOOKED
Spring Course 2022 - Wed 2 Mar to Wed 6 Apr 2022 - APPLY NOW


Wednesday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm (check-in at 7.15 pm)


Beginners' Course - £110 for adults, £80 for full-time students

The course fee covers :

  • the course (see dates above)
  • use of equipment (see below)
  • continued membership of the club until end of the current term

Cheques must be payable to "Wimbledon Fencing Club".


All course participants are required to become members of the British Fencing Association for compulsory insurance cover.

Foils, jackets, plastrons, gloves and masks will be provided.


Participants should wear a short-sleeve T-shirt, stretchy (track-suit) trousers, and trainers (with clean, light-coloured soles).


There are good changing facilities and showers. However, fencers are advised to bring their own bottled (still) water for convenience.

Fencing will continue until the end of term, at no extra cost, to encourage participation in club activities and competitions.
