Fencing Course for Adult Beginners

Wimbledon Fencing Club offers a fencing course for the following types of beginner :

This 9-week course is structured around the syllabus for the Grade 1 Achievement Award at Foil as defined by the British Fencing Association.

Each course will be preceded by an optional Taster Session.

Beginners' Courses

  • Spring Course 2020 - Wednesday 29 January to Wednesday 25 March 2020 - SUSPENDED
  • Summer Course 2020 - Wednesday 29 April to Wednesday 24 June 2020 - SUSPENDED
  • Autumn Course 2020 - Wednesday 23 September to Wednesday 18 November 2020


Wednesday evenings from 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm (check-in at 7.15 pm)


Taster Session - £10 (deductible from the Beginners' course fee)
Beginners' Course - £115 for adults, £85 for full-time students

The course fee covers :

  • the course (see dates above)
  • use of equipment (see below)
  • continued membership of the club until end of the current term

Cheques must be payable to "Wimbledon Fencing Club".


Foils, jackets, plastrons, gloves and masks will be provided.


Participants should wear a short-sleeve T-shirt, stretchy (track-suit) trousers, and trainers (with clean, light-coloured soles).


There are good changing facilities and showers. However, fencers are advised to bring their own bottled (still) water for convenience.

Fencing will continue until the end of term, at no extra cost, to encourage participation in club activities and competitions.
